EMSOL worked with National Rail and West Midlands Railway at Birmingham New Street to help them assess how rail companies can work together to take action on improving local air quality and meeting their clean air targets.

EMSOL’s environmental data scientist Dr Debasree Banerjee contributed to a research paper exploring the project, measures taken and resulting data. The research paper is titled “Intervention of an Upgraded Ventilation System and Effects of the COVID-19 Lockdown on Air Quality at Birmingham New Street Railway Station” and has recently been published by the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health as part of the Special Issue – Air Pollution: Occupational Exposure and Public Health.
